According to ESMA's ESEF Reporting Manual guidance 2.5.1, images appearing within iXBRL tags should not be referenced to external files no matter what their size is. If an image in an iXBRL tag is referenced to an external file, you will get the error message: Violation: “imageInIXbrlElementNotEmbedded”.
