Even though a regular iXBRL file contains information that is easily readable by the naked eye, it takes dedicated consumption software such as the ParsePort XBRL Inspector to access the data contained in the underlying XBRL layer.
This isn’t an issue for most auditors and large-scale investors, who often possess the advanced software needed to consume iXBRL reports, but the same isn’t the case for the average consumer.
What is a viewer file?
Because the average consumer doesn’t necessarily have access to advanced consumption software, we provide you with the option to download an iXBRL file with a viewer embedded.
The viewer file will let anyone open it with a standard web browser, and the embedded viewer gives users the ability to highlight every tagged element in the report and access the underlying XBRL data.
This makes the iXBRL viewer file the perfect thing to host on your website for download or distribute among your investors or board.
